Picking up Matthew in Forres
Morven Caithness walk
Coffee stop in Brora
We were allowed to sit on outside chairs, 2 meter apart, because of Covid
Start of the walk
Braemore, inland from Dunbeath
Morven shrouded in mists
Deepening fog
After pitching our tents at the foot of Morven we waited for the fog to lift, taking a nap
Strolling in the fog
When the fog didn't lift, we decided to do an easy lowland walk
Strings of pearls
It started to brighten up
Suddenly the landscape starts to unveil itself
Maiden Pap unveiled
The lower but slightly steeper neighbour of Morven. Name means "virgin breast".
Morven keeping a foggy head
Our main destiny, Morven, never really shed its clouds
O, would it lift tomorrow...
But the cloud never lifted and we didn't ascend Morven
Breakfast amid midges
The midge repellent allowed us to lift the netting so we could eat our porridge. Notice the mist that had come back.
A chat with kennel dogs
Tun was undisturbed
The coast of Berriedale
After a good coffee bought at the "River Cottage Cafe" we strolled to the pebble beach
Gulls, surf and a lot of rain
One hour driving on the return home it cleared up and we were in bright sunlight the remainder of the journey
Morven on a clear August evening
Morven is 64km away from Findhorn beach
The lower snowy summit to the right is Maiden Pap. Below Morven on the coast, very vaguely, Helmsdale can be seen, at a distance of 50km.
