My carpool car parked at the "Red Barn", which is conveniently painted green
It was below zero and all the wet places on the path were frozen, making for careful walking!
So pleasant all those trees!
Abhainn a' Gharbh Choire
Abhainn Loch na h-Oidhche will be impassable when in spate
At the two moraines I left the path for the mountain
I discovered a sloping flat ridge below the crags going from right to left so headed for that
A puddle turned to ice crystals - nature is an artist
Everywhere the water had frozen, creating dangerous spots which I carefully avoided
The second and behind it the fourth (highest) summit
Note Beinn Eighe and Liathach in the background
Loch Maree and the Minch
Seen from the first and lowest summit with its tiny "cairn"
Slioch, a mighty castle
The third summit with a peculiar jetty-like rock formation
This is likely a golden eagle!
Picture extremely cropped and sharpness artificially enhanced. SadIy I didn't have my big telelens on me...
The final, "real" summit, 855m
The summit cairn is just visible
Beinn an Eoin casting a long shadow
Gazing northwards: Baosbheinn and the ridge of Beinn an Eoin that I had just walked
The semi-circular cairn gave me shelter against the gentle but chilly wind (felt temperature about -10 degrees Celsius)
Baosbheinn and Loch na h-Oidhche (night lake)
Beinn a' Chearcaill, the Circle Mountain, which we had climbed last November
Meall a' Ghiuthais in the background
Passing small tors on the way back
The very steep and slippery slope I had to descend in order to reach the path
The rocky path back to the car - I had to hurry because it was getting dark!
Beinn an Eoin signals an orange good-bye
Even in dusk the valley was beautiful
Note the "grouse stone" in front
